Lane Hogs, Inc.

It's official. After all these years as a hodgepodge bike club, our bicycle club is OFFICIALLY known as Lane Hogs, Inc. a non-profit bicycle club! Major props to Caitlin Collier for doing all the legwork/paperwork to make this happen finally!!!

AWESOME! Congrats! Now, I suppose those Lane Hog "wannabees" will have to pay to be members! haha!

I'm sorry, but that's a terrible name for a bicycle club. What happened to sharing the road?

Maybe it's supposed to be a tongue-in-cheek thing (after all, a lot of drivers think cyclists are hogging the road when they take the lane), but I doubt anyone will interpret it that way.

I'm not going to get into the whole "that's a stupid name" thing. What we didn't want was a vanilla name like "The Vermillion Bike Club". I'll admit that originally I wasn't super excited about the name either (back in 1999) but it stuck and when we started the incorporation process we discussed changing it, even people from other area clubs said "NO" and that it had character.

We've toyed with adding tag lines like "controlling the bike lane since 1999" but have not officially done so.

I guess it comes down to the fact that you can't please everybody. Like a friend of mine says: It you want to please everybody you would be 'The Plain Vanilla Bicycle Organization Who Only Drink Milk And Never Beer'.

We are who we are I guess and nobody in this area seems to care about the name. Anybody who knows the organization knows our advocacy efforts and our will to coexist with vehicles.
